Beverages to keep you cozy this monsoon

And as we began to think there would be no end to the ordeal of long sweltering summers, respite came in the form of rains and took us by surprise. With the monsoons slowly setting in, now mornings mean tugging on to the blanket for a few more minutes, wishing the alarm to snooze on its own; afternoons mean sitting curled up on a comfy couch, toes tucked under, and a book in hands; and evening mean watching the incessant rain pelt on the window pane, while we slurp a soothing hot drink and munch on something hot and crispy.
But together with the fresh aroma of the rain-soaked earth, monsoon and the changing weather also bring with it crushing headaches, cough, cold and lethargy. So here we are with some hot and soothing beverages that will boost your metabolism, improve your immune system, and keep you warm and delighted this monsoon.

Milk and turmeric concoction

As the weather is slowly changing, a glass of soothing turmeric milk is just what you need to keep yourself warm and comforted. Turmeric, with its anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antioxidant properties, has been used in Indian households for centuries as a remedy for cough, feverishness and common cold. Just add half a teaspoon of turmeric to a cup of warm milk and sip through it while it is still hot. Believe us, it works wonders.

Drink that zesty ginger

The intense flavour of ginger will chase away your monsoon blues. It has a spicy aroma that opens up your senses, and sinuses. It is a brilliant remedy for sore throat and cold. Ginger is also said to boost circulation, increase supply of oxygen to the cells, flush out harmful toxins, fights off bad bacteria and speed up the healing process. And the good news is, you can enjoy all the above mentioned benefits of ginger in a nice, hot, soothing cup of tea.

Spice things up with cinnamon

Cinnamon has a magical effect when it comes to healing clogged throat due to cold. Packed with anti-oxidants, it lessens the production of mucous and helps you breathe easy. So, when it is pouring outside and there is nip in the air, you know it is a good time to simmer some cinnamon, along with ginger and turmeric, in milk for about 5 minutes and sip on it, preferably in a comfy robe and a nice book to keep you company.

Hot cashew milk for a cold day

A steaming mug of hot cashew milk, with its soothing qualities, is the perfect thing to beat the chill out of your bones. Enticingly smooth, frothy, creamy and rich cashew milk, together with the winning flavour combo of ginger and cinnamon, is a beverage to swear by this monsoon. For a slight hint of sweetness, feel free to add a dollop of honey or maybe a medjool date. Spiced hot milk is a comfort drink that is extremely adaptable; you may use almonds or even macadamias instead of the cashews and a variety of different spices and sweeteners.
