‘Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper’ says the popular quote. And by that standard breakfast should be the most majestic meal of the day. But with our fast paced lifestyles and in our haste to run out of the door we often skip this important meal of the day. However studies have shown that skipping breakfast can contribute to obesity, lower energy levels and be detrimental to health, overall.
Yes, mornings can be quite stressful, but a little planning and some quick and easy recipes on hand can ensure that you make time for a healthy breakfast. Here are a few convenient breakfast ideas that are easy to whip up in a jiffy and delicious enough to make breakfast your favourite meal of the day.
Apple Yogurt Smoothie:
Apples are a sweet and delicious way to start the day. Peel and chop an apple and drop it into a blender with a cup of yogurt, a little orange juice and a spoon of honey. Add a spoon of roasted sesame or sunflower seeds for some extra crunch and nourishment. Blend all the ingredients together and enjoy a filling breakfast smoothie that makes for a sweet start to the day.
Crepes are a favourite treat at nearly any time of the day, but they make for great breakfast meals. Mix together a batter of egg whites, milk, flour and honey and put on a hot pan for a thin crepes. Blend a little yogurt and honey and spread it over the hot crepes with diced bananas. Turn the crepes into a roll and enjoy.
Cheese and mushroom omelette squares:
Omelettes are quick and easy meals that are fast to good and oh so good to eat! To start your day on a power-packed note simply beat an egg, chopped onions, tomatoes and chilly together. Toss a couple of mushrooms in butter and add it to the mix. Pour a little milk to thicken the mixture, and then finally grate a cheese cube into it. Pour the mix into a greased pan and bake in the microwave for about 15 minutes. Then cut into squares, grate a little more cheese over it, and gobble it up. A recipe so delicious, you’ll never want to skip breakfast again.
Cinnamon spiced Bread pudding:
Bread pudding is another fast meal that makes for a sweet start of the day. This recipe can also be made using older bread, thus making it a good recipe to use up leftovers. Grease a pan and line it with bread. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on the bread. Then pour in a mixture of egg, sugar, milk and a drop of vanilla essence. You can even add a sprinkle of nutty pumpkin seeds for some added fibre. Bake it for 45 minutes and sit down to a breakfast of decadent flavours. Just the way every day should begin.
